Sangeeta claims Naeema Butt lost film role due to ‘Tantrums’
KARACHI: Veteran actress and director Sangeeta says she removed actress Naeema Butt from her upcoming film after disagreements during the casting process, saying she does not tolerate “tantrums” on set.
Speaking in a recent interview, Sangeeta discussed her career and shared details about the casting of her film “Makkho.” She said Naeema Butt was initially selected for a role but was later replaced.
According to Sangeeta, the actress repeatedly suggested changes to the film’s casting and creative decisions. She said she ultimately asked Naeema to withdraw from the project and return the advance payment, which she said the actress did.
Sangeeta said she has spent nearly 50 years in Pakistan’s entertainment industry and believes it was inappropriate for a newcomer to advise her on casting decisions. She added that Naeema was offered a strong role in the film but lost the opportunity because of what she described as the actress’s behavior.
The veteran filmmaker also contrasted the current generation of actors with those of her era, saying artists in her time focused on their work rather than making demands during productions.
