Sohail Sameer raises concerns over changing family values in modern marriages
KARACHI: Pakistani actor Sohail Sameer has spoken about evolving marriage dynamics and family structures, saying that some parents today encourage their daughters to influence their husbands to separate from joint families.
In a recent interview, Sameer said that in some cases, daughters are raised with the mindset that they should ensure independence from in-laws after marriage, in order to avoid pressure from mothers-in-law.
He added that some newly married women expect full authority within the household and believe the husband’s parents should take a secondary role after marriage.
Sameer emphasized that marriage is a major adjustment for women, noting that they leave their parents and familiar environment to join a new family, which he described as a significant sacrifice.
He said husbands should treat their wives with care, respect, and affection, while also stressing that it is the responsibility of the husband and his family to provide a supportive and respectful environment for new brides.
The actor also called for greater understanding between families, saying that mothers-in-law are also women who have gone through similar experiences in their own lives and should be viewed with empathy.
