IHC fixes March 11 for

The Islamabad High Court has directed that the suspension of sentence applications filed by former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the £190 million case be fixed for hearing on March 11.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Azam Khan heard miscellaneous applications seeking an early hearing of the suspension pleas.

Barrister Salman Safdar appeared before the court and argued that the applications for suspension of sentence have been pending for a year.

He maintained that while the defense was not seeking immediate hearing of the main appeal, the delay in fixing the suspension pleas was causing concern.

During the proceedings, a large number of PTI-affiliated lawyers approached the rostrum, prompting the Chief Justice to express displeasure, questioning whether an attempt was being made to influence the court.

Barrister Safdar informed the bench that Imran Khan is facing an eye-related medical issue and is being taken to hospital for treatment. He further submitted that five miscellaneous applications had already been filed, but the registrar’s office had not scheduled the matter for hearing.

He also pointed out that Bushra Bibi’s plea has remained pending for a year, urging the court to fix the case either on Monday or any date next week.

Accepting the request for early hearing, the court ordered that the suspension of sentence applications be scheduled for March 11.

Separately, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, expressed concern over the delay in proceedings, calling the long interval between hearings troubling.

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Maryam Riaz Wattoo, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, has claimed that despite receiving injections, there has been no improvement in Imran Khan’s affected eye.

She added that even after the injections, there has been not even a 10 percent improvement in the condition of Imran Khan’s affected eye. Maryam stressed the urgent need for Imran Khan to be granted access to his personal doctors immediately.

Maryam Riaz Wattoo also appealed to PTI leaders to raise the matter in courts, with human rights organizations, and in international media, emphasizing that Imran Khan urgently requires proper medical care.

Meanwhile, jail sources confirmed that Bushra Bibi and her family were allowed a visit today, which included her daughter and daughter-in-law. The meeting lasted for approximately 30 minutes.

According to the sources, after a separate meeting with Barrister Salman Safdar, Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan also met inside the prison’s conference room for half an hour, during which they inquired about each other’s well-being.

Toshakhana-II: Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi get 17-year jail term each

Toshakhana-II

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, along with his wife Bushra Bibi, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison each in the Toshakhana-II case.

The special Central Judge Arjumand Shah announced the verdict at Adiala Jail, although none of the lawyers representing the couple were present in court.

Under Sections 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were handed seven-year sentences each, contributing to the overall 17-year imprisonment. Additionally, the court imposed a fine of PKR 10 million on both.

The Toshakhana-II case dates back to July 13, 2024, when the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail.

The couple remained in NAB custody for 37 days before the bureau filed a reference in the Accountability Court on August 20, 2024. Following the Supreme Court’s reinstatement of NAB amendments, the case was transferred to the FIA Anti-Corruption Court on September 9, 2024.

The trial began on September 16, 2024, before Special Judge Central Shah Rukh Arjumand at Adiala Jail. During the trial, a total of 21 witnesses were examined, including former Military Secretary Brigadier (R) Muhammad Ahmad, private appraiser Sohail Abbasi, and Imran Khan’s former Principal Secretary Inaamullah. Four prosecution witnesses were later withdrawn by the FIA. The trial continued for nearly a year with over 80 hearings held at Adiala Jail.

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are accused of receiving a Bulgari jewelry set from the Saudi Crown Prince in 2021, valued at over PKR 67.15 million. According to FIA records, the couple undervalued the jewelry through a private appraiser, recording its price at only PKR 5.9 million.

The gift, which included a necklace, bracelet, ring, and earrings, was not deposited in Toshakhana, nor was its proper value recorded. FIA investigations revealed undue influence was used to undervalue the set.

The government was represented by Federal Prosecutors Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi, Barrister Umair Majeed Malik, Bilal Butt, and Shahvez Gilani, while the defense team included Arshad Tabrez, Quthain Faisal Mufti, and Barrister Salman Safdar.
