Russia successfully tests intercontinental ballistic missile during exercises

MOSCOW: Russia’s Defense Ministry said that its military successfully test-fired a solid-fuel, mobile intercontinental ballistic missile from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the northwestern Arkhangelsk region during military exercises.

Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces deployed a mobile launcher battery at a remote location before launching the missile toward the Kura test site on the Kamchatka Peninsula, more than 6,700 kilometers away in Russia’s Far East.

The military said the main objective of the test was to verify the missile system’s tactical, technical and flight characteristics. The Defense Ministry said all designated objectives were achieved and the missile maintained an accurate flight path to its target without any reported issues.

The ministry did not identify the specific missile used in the test. However, reports said Russia’s missile forces had previously conducted a test of the RS-24 Yars missile system during exercises in mid-May.

The latest test comes less than a week after unverified reports claimed that Ukrainian drones had attempted to target Plesetsk, Russia’s only military spaceport.
