Adiala Jail rejects solitary confinement claim in Imran Khan case

ISLAMABAD: The superintendent of Adiala Jail has denied allegations that former Prime Minister Imran Khan is being held in solitary confinement, according to a report submitted to the Islamabad High Court.

The report states that Khan is free to move within a seven-cell compound from the time his lock-up opens in the morning until evening and that no inmate at Adiala Jail is being kept in solitary confinement.

According to the jail authorities, Khan is allowed to meet his wife, Bushra Bibi, every Tuesday in accordance with prison rules.

The report also says special security arrangements have been made due to his status as a former prime minister and leader of a political party, preventing access to his residential area by other inmates.

The superintendent said prison doctors examine Khan three times daily, checking his blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation and other vital signs, while also inspecting his meals. A full-time convicted inmate prepares his meals according to his preferred menu.

The report further states that Khan has access to natural light, fresh air and outdoor exercise from sunrise to sunset. It urges the court to dismiss the petition filed by Aleema Khan, describing the allegations of solitary confinement as baseless.

The Islamabad High Court is scheduled to hear the petition on Thursday before Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro.
