ISLAMABAD: Senior lawyer Ahsan Bhoon has sent a Rs5 billion defamation notice to Capt (Retired) Muhammad Safdar over what the notice describes as false and highly defamatory allegations.
According to the notice, allegations were made against Bhoon regarding his educational qualifications and legal practice. It said Safdar’s claims constituted a direct attack on Bhoon’s reputation.
The notice demands that Safdar issue an unconditional apology within seven days.
Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, Safdar said the debate over fake degrees had resurfaced in the country.
He said the issue of politicians’ fake degrees had also emerged in the past, adding that he would apologize to lawyers if they produced their degrees.
Safdar also criticized Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, saying remarks made by Tarar had weakened his case. He said Tarar was junior to him in politics and should oppose fake degrees.
Safdar said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was their party, but he was pursuing the issue separately from politics.
