Bilawal Bhutto urges political parties to respect institutional boundaries

LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has criticized a political party for targeting national institutions, stating that all organizations should operate within their respective mandates, while political parties should conduct their activities within the political sphere.

Speaking at a meeting, Bilawal emphasized that adhering to the political domain ensures that parties do not create difficulties for themselves or others. He also stressed the need to counter attempts to target the military in a non-political manner.

The PPP chairman held discussions at the Governor House Lahore with over 70 ticket holders from Punjab. The meeting focused on political matters, including preparations for the upcoming local government elections in the province.

During the session, Dost Muhammad Khosa reportedly briefed Bilawal Bhutto on alleged irregularities in his constituency, NA-185.

KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has taken a firm stance on the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, with its Central Executive Committee (CEC) endorsing only one clause while discarding the rest after extensive deliberations.

Speaking at a press briefing after the meeting, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said a delegation from the PML-N had approached the party seeking support for the amendment.

The proposed changes included the creation of a constitutional court, revisions to the NFC Award, reforms in education and population planning, restoration of executive magistracy, judicial transfers, and matters related to the Election Commission.

Bilawal stated that the only proposal the CEC agreed to support was the amendment pertaining to Article 243. He said the party outrightly rejected any move affecting the provincial share, adding that the PPP would not support such a proposal under any circumstances. All other points of the 27th Amendment, including changes to the NFC formula, were fully rejected.

Regarding the establishment of a constitutional court, Bilawal noted that while the idea existed in the Charter of Democracy, other commitments from the charter must also be considered. He emphasized that any such court must ensure equal representation from all four provinces.

Bilawal further said the CEC would reconvene after Friday prayers to finalize its position on the matter of the constitutional court.

Meanwhile, federal cabinet meeting, convened today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to deliberate on the 27th Constitutional Amendment, has been postponed.

The session was expected to approve the draft of the 27th Amendment; however, cabinet members have been formally notified about the postponement.

The meeting was scheduled to take place at Committee Room No. 2 of the Parliament House, where key government matters and proposed constitutional amendments were to be discussed.

ISLAMABAD: As tensions escalate between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has called an emergency meeting of senior party leaders to discuss the situation

According to party insiders, the meeting — to be held via Zoom — will be attended by members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and senior leadership. The session is expected to finalise the party’s future strategy regarding the PML-N.

Sources further revealed that Bilawal will also brief participants on the PPP leadership’s late-night meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari and the PML-N delegation.

On the other hand, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has convened a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) at Bilawal House Karachi on October 18, to discuss the country’s political situation and future course of action, according to an official statement.

The meeting comes at a time when relations between PPP and its coalition partner, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), have been strained for several weeks.

The leaders from both parties have engaged in an escalating exchange of accusations, underscoring widening cracks within the ruling alliance.

President Asif Ali Zardari held a late-night meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to review the country’s evolving political situation, as tensions persist between coalition allies PPP and PML-N.

The leaders discussed matters pertaining to the overall security and political situation in the country, as well as recent regional and international developments.

The PPP and the PML-N’s Punjab leadership have been engaged in a war of words for the past many days over issues ranging from flood compensation to water rights in the context of the Cholistan canals project.
