Islamabad: Negotiations between the United States and Iran are ongoing as both sides continue efforts to reach a diplomatic agreement, according to a U.S. official.
The official stated that dialogue between Washington and Tehran remains active, with backchannel contacts also continuing to explore a peaceful resolution.
The remarks came after recent talks held in Pakistan, though the timing of future high-level meetings between the two sides remains unclear.
Last week, Pakistan facilitated a round of negotiations in Islamabad between the two countries. The U.S. delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance, accompanied by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
The Iranian delegation was headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, along with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other officials.
Speaking on the development, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the negotiations continued for 24 hours under Pakistan’s mediation.
He noted that he, along with Asim Munir, facilitated multiple rounds of “serious and productive” discussions between the two sides.
Ishaq Dar added that both parties appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts and expressed hope that a constructive approach would be maintained to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
He emphasized the importance of all sides adhering to the ceasefire commitment and reaffirmed Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue between the United States and Iran.
