KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced public holidays for Eid-ul-Adha, issuing an official notification on Friday.

According to the notification approved by Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah, holidays will be observed across the province from May 26 to May 29, 2026.

The notification states that Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be public holidays for Eid-ul-Adha.

The holiday applies to all government, semi-government, and local government institutions. However, employees working in essential services and those involved in budget-related work will be exempt from the holiday.

The announcement formalizes the official break for Eid celebrations across the province.

KARACHI: The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has indicated that Eid-ul-Adha in Pakistan is likely to fall on May 27.

According to a spokesperson, the new moon on May 17 will be 18 hours and 30 minutes old at sunset, making the chances of sighting the Zilhaj moon on the evening of May 17 favorable.

The spokesperson added that the first of Zilhaj 1447 Hijri is expected to fall on Monday, May 18.

Based on these calculations, Eid-ul-Adha is likely to be observed in the country on May 27.

However, SUPARCO clarified that the final decision regarding moon sighting and the official start of Zilhaj will be taken by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan.
