Punjab forms 12 JITs to probe banned TLP cases

LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has constituted 12 Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) to probe cases registered against the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

According to the Home Department notification, 7 JITs will investigate cases in Lahore while 5 will handle cases in Sheikhupura.

The JITs are tasked with investigating cases under anti-terrorism and other serious provisions of the law. Each team will include representatives from the police, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and intelligence agencies to ensure thorough investigation.

The formation of these JITs followed a request from the Punjab Police to expedite investigations.

Police sources stated that over 75 cases have been registered against the banned TLP, with more than 2,000 individuals named in these cases already arrested.

Authorities emphasized that the move aims to strengthen law enforcement efforts and ensure accountability in cases involving extremist activities.

Punjab extends Section 144 for 7 more days across province

Lahore: The Punjab government has extended the implementation of Section 144 across the province for an additional seven days.

The Punjab Home Department issued a notification announcing that the restrictions will remain in place until Saturday, November 22.

Under the notification, all public gatherings—including protests, rallies, processions, sit-ins, and meetings—are prohibited. Section 144 also restricts the assembly of four or more people at public places.

A spokesperson clarified that the display of any type of weapons, use of loudspeakers, and dissemination of provocative, hateful, or sectarian material is completely banned. Loudspeakers may only be used for the call to prayer (Azaan) and Friday sermons.

According to the Home Department, this decision was taken for the establishment of law and order, protection of human lives and property.

The spokesman said that the ban will not apply to wedding ceremonies, funerals and burials, while officers and officials on official duties and courts are exempted from the ban.

According to the spokesman, in view of the security threats, processions and sit-ins can be a soft target for terrorists, miscreants can take advantage of the public protest to carry out anti-state activities.

Sindh Govt extends Section 144 for one month

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced an extension of Section 144 across the province, with the Home Department issuing a formal notification to enforce the order.

The order states that Section 144 will remain in effect throughout the province until December 12, prohibiting gatherings of more than five people.

The notification further adds that protests, sit-ins, and rallies will remain banned across Sindh during this period.

LAHORE: The Punjab government has moved to tighten its grip on extremist elements, deciding to recommend a federal ban on a group accused of promoting violence and disrupting public order.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting on security and public safety chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, according to an official statement issued after the session.

The statement said the Punjab government would urge the federal government to ban the extremist group and place its leadership on the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

It was further decided that those involved in the killing of police officers, destruction of public property, or acts of violence will be tried in anti-terrorism courts. The group’s properties and assets will be handed over to the Auqaf Department, while its posters, banners, and advertisements will be completely banned.

The meeting also approved measures to shut down the extremist group’s social media accounts spreading hate and to freeze all its bank accounts. Strict action will be taken for violations of the Loudspeaker Act, the statement added.

In addition, the Home Department Punjab has issued a one-month ultimatum for citizens to surrender illegal weapons, directing them to register their licensed arms at Khidmat Centers within the same period.

Authorities have also ordered inspections of arms dealers’ stocks and imposed a complete ban on the issuance of new weapon licenses. The Punjab government will recommend that the federal government regularize arms factories and manufacturers.

Furthermore, the provincial cabinet has approved stricter penalties for possessing illegal weapons, declaring it a non-bailable offense. Offenders will face up to 14 years in prison and a fine of Rs2 million, according to the statement.

Punjab restricts protests and public gatherings province-wide

LAHORE: The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 across the province, restricting public gatherings and the display of firearms for the next ten days.

According to a notification issued by the Home Department, the restrictions have been enforced to maintain law and order in the province. The ban applies to rallies, processions, and sit-ins, which will remain prohibited during this period.

The ongoing notification states that under Section 144, the display of weapons and public gatherings will also be banned in the province.

Meanwhile, the use of loudspeakers besides Azan and Sermon across the province will also be prohibited.

It is to be remembered that Tehreek -e –Labbaik Pakistan has announced a march towards Islamabad today, there were some incidents of clashes between TLP workers and police in different cities of Punjab including Lahore.
