MUMBAI: Bollywood actor and lawmaker Kangana Ranaut has criticized what she described as growing jealousy and negativity among younger actors, calling the mindset “toxic” and urging artists to remain open to learning.

Speaking to media during promotions of her new film Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, which has been released in cinemas, Ranaut said actors should be willing to learn from those more talented while also guiding those who are less experienced.

“If someone is more talented than me, I should learn from them. If someone is less talented, I should guide them,” she said, adding that mentorship and openness are essential in the film industry.

Ranaut also praised fellow actor Deepika Padukone, highlighting her discipline and supporting her reported demand for an eight-hour work schedule, saying top actors have the right to set reasonable working conditions.

She further said she observes a lack of discipline and rising insecurity among newer actors, adding that such jealousy and resentment should be consciously eliminated from the industry.

The actor, known for her outspoken remarks, continues to remain a prominent and controversial voice in Indian cinema and politics.

MUMBAI: Indian actress and politician Kangana Ranaut has denied rumors of a secret marriage after photos of her wearing traditional bridal symbols sparked speculation on social media.

The rumors began after Kangana was seen wearing green bangles and a mangalsutra, a necklace traditionally associated with married Hindu women.

Responding to the speculation on Instagram, the actress said she would never marry in secret and clarified that the look was part of a film character.

“I promise, I will not have a secret wedding,” Kangana wrote while sharing a video on her Instagram story in which she appeared in traditional attire.

She said someone had photographed her while she was in character makeup during a shoot, which led to numerous calls and online rumors.

Kangana also questioned why her married-woman look caused such a strong reaction, adding that actors regularly portray different characters on screen.

In another post, the actress spoke about working outdoors during a heatwave, saying actors filming under lights and in enclosed spaces also face difficult conditions.

According to Indian media reports, Kangana Ranaut is currently filming Queen 2, and the viral appearance was reportedly linked to her role in the movie.

Reports added that she had gone to a dentist appointment immediately after shooting and did not have time to change outfits before being photographed by paparazzi.

Kangana Ranaut urges women to prioritize careers

MUMBAI: Indian actress Kangana Ranaut has advised women to focus on building their careers before marriage, expressing concern over the increasing number of bride deaths linked to dowry demands in India.

In an Instagram story, the Bollywood actress and politician said heartbreaking reports involving young married women continue to emerge daily, including cases of educated women pleading with their parents to rescue them from toxic environments before tragedies occur.

Kangana criticized what she described as a social mindset in which daughters are often abandoned after marriage, leaving many women vulnerable to abuse and harassment.

Referring to the pressures created by social media and lifestyle industries, she told young women that career independence is more important than relationships or marriage.

“You have to become your own hero. No one is coming to save you,” she wrote, adding that a woman’s identity and achievements matter more than whom she marries.

Her remarks came after the death of 33-year-old actress Tvesha Sharma from Noida, who was found dead earlier this month at her husband’s residence in Bhopal.

Police have registered a case against Sharma’s husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law Giri Bala Singh on charges of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide following a complaint filed by the actress’s parents.

MUMBAI: Renowned Indian musician AR Rahman recently faced criticism from Bollywood actress and politician Kangana Ranaut, prompting actor Prakash Raj to defend the Oscar-winning composer amid rising tensions over freedom of artistic choice.

Kangana had attempted to label Rahman as anti-national after he declined to contribute a song for her film Emergency, a move that drew widespread attention given her controversial statements and political affiliations with the BJP.

Speaking at the Kerala Literature Festival during a discussion on “Criminalizing Dissent”, Prakash Raj expressed full support for Rahman.

He highlighted that the composer had earned acclaim and international recognition with hits like Maa Tujhe Salaam and Jai Ho, and does not need validation for his artistic choices.

Without naming Kangana directly, Raj questioned the fairness of branding an artist as anti-national merely for refusing work on a project. He also criticized the tendency to claim personal films as classics while attacking others for dissent.

Raj added that turning differences of opinion into personal vendettas and levying serious accusations like treason is a concerning trend in the industry.
