King Charles leads Royal Family at annual Garter Day ceremony

King Charles

WINDSOR, England: King Charles III led members of the British Royal Family at the annual Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle, one of the most significant events on the royal calendar.

The monarch was joined by Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate and other senior royals for the centuries-old tradition held at St George’s Chapel.

In a statement shared on the Royal Family’s official social media account, Buckingham Palace said the King and Queen, accompanied by members of the Royal Family, attended the Service for the Most Noble Order of the Garter at Windsor Castle.

Founded by King Edward III nearly 700 years ago, the Order of the Garter is Britain’s oldest and most prestigious order of chivalry. Membership is limited to the Sovereign, the Queen, members of the Royal Family and a select group of individuals honored for distinguished public service.

Ahead of the ceremony, senior royals attended a luncheon at Windsor Castle before taking part in the traditional procession to St George’s Chapel. Following the service, members of the royal party returned to the castle by carriage.

Prince William participated in the procession wearing the order’s signature blue velvet robes. The Prince of Wales was invested as the order’s 1,000th Knight by Queen Elizabeth II in 2008.

Princess Kate, Duchess Sophie and Sir Tim Laurence watched the procession from the Galilee Porch as crowds gathered to witness the historic event.

LONDON: Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has called for greater public awareness around mental health, saying people still feel ashamed to discuss psychological illnesses and society needs to treat them like any other medical condition.

Speaking to media during an event hosted by the British Asian Trust in London, Khan stressed the importance of changing societal attitudes toward mental health issues.

She said mental illnesses should be recognized like physical diseases, adding that incidents of harassment and violence in society are condemnable and must be addressed through accountability and a shift in mindset.

The actress also shared details of her meeting with King Charles III, saying the monarch showed strong interest in the trust’s work.

“I had a very good conversation with King Charles. He thanked me for working with the British Asian Trust,” Khan said, adding that he appeared engaged and curious about her social work.

Khan described the British monarch as a “charming personality” and said he asked about ongoing initiatives and developments in the organization’s activities.

In a new development in the royal family’s ongoing rift, Prince William is reportedly open to the possibility of reconciliation with his younger brother, Prince Harry — but only under strict conditions.

A source close to the royal household told Heat Magazine that William is not completely closed off to mending fences, especially given King Charles’ health concerns and the symbolic weight of the upcoming holiday season. Geo News

However, while the door may not be entirely shut, William is making it clear that peace talks would not be casual or unstructured. The source said that any meeting would have to be “a supervised discussion handled with total discretion,” rather than an informal or impromptu encounter. Geo News

This stance contrasts with the cautious optimism represented by Harry’s recent efforts to reconnect — including a private meeting with the King in September, which lasted nearly an hour and marked the first public father-son contact in about 18 months. International Business Times UK+1

Yet, some insiders remain skeptical about any rapprochement between William and Harry. According to Harper’s Bazaar, William has not forgiven Harry for publicly airing private family matters — particularly those revealed in Harry’s memoir Spare — and might only agree to a symbolic meeting to preserve appearances. Adding fuel to tension, Meghan Markle’s recent comments have been portrayed by royal sources as disrespectful toward royal traditions — remarks that could further strain the prospects of reconciliation. Geo News

For now, the situation stands in uneasy balance: a possible thawing of relations with the King on one side, and a brotherly reunion held hostage by conditions, trust issues, and public scrutiny on the other.
