Eid-ul-Fitr

ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Pakistan and the global Muslim community, emphasizing unity, brotherhood, and national solidarity.

President Zardari described Eid as the reward for the month of Ramadan, highlighting the spiritual renewal, patience, piety, and selflessness it fosters. He urged citizens to incorporate the lessons of Ramadan into daily life by promoting patience, tolerance, empathy, and justice.

The President also stressed the importance of including the underprivileged, orphans, and marginalized communities in the celebrations, while reiterating the nation’s commitment to constitutional supremacy, law, and collective responsibility. He prayed for peace, stability, and prosperity for Pakistan.

Prime Minister Sharif echoed similar sentiments, calling Eid a manifestation of Allah’s mercy and blessings bestowed upon Muslims after the month of Ramadan. He said the festival revitalizes the values of selflessness, unity, public service, and collective responsibility.

Highlighting support for vulnerable groups, the Prime Minister noted that the government ensured financial assistance through digital mechanisms during Ramadan. He added that collective cooperation is the foundation of national progress and prosperity.

Expressing concern over ongoing conflicts in Gaza and the Middle East, Sharif emphasized the urgent need for unity within the Muslim Ummah to promote justice, dignity, and sustainable peace.

Both leaders reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to global peace, tolerance, and fostering brotherhood, praying that the blessings of Eid bring peace and security to the entire world.

Pakistan will defend its stability at all costs, President declares

Pakistan will defend

ISLAMABAD: Addressing a joint session of Parliament, President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed that Pakistan will not allow any domestic or foreign entity to use its soil — or that of any neighboring country — to destabilize its peace.

Calling it a “unique honor,” Zardari noted that the address marked his ninth speech to Parliament as a twice-elected president, describing such occasions as reminders of democratic continuity and constitutional responsibility.

He emphasized that nations are tested not only in times of crisis but also at critical turning points. The strength of the republic, he said, lies in the Constitution, the resilience of the people, parliamentary supremacy, responsible governance, and the morale of the armed forces. At the start of the new parliamentary year, he urged lawmakers to uphold sovereignty, constitutional rule, and economic growth.

National Security and Regional Affairs

Zardari stated that over the past ten months, Pakistan has faced complex challenges, including unprovoked attacks along both borders. He praised the armed forces for demonstrating professionalism and discipline, claiming that Indian aggression was turned into a “historic strategic victory.”

Referring to the February 26 attacks on the western border, he said the nation stood united alongside its military in countering threats. He reiterated Pakistan’s diplomatic and moral support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that lasting peace in South Asia is impossible without resolving the Kashmir dispute.

He underscored that Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state and cited Article 51 of the UN Charter as affirming the country’s right to self-defense. He also stressed continued diplomatic efforts to prevent cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan.

The president strongly condemned the conflict sparked during negotiations with Iran and called for restraint, dialogue, and peaceful resolution to prevent further regional instability.

Foreign Policy and Strategic Partnerships

Zardari highlighted expanding strategic cooperation between Pakistan and the United States, while noting that ties with China have reached new heights. He said the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC 2) would transform Pakistan’s infrastructure and thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for continued support.

On Palestine, he reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance in favor of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders. He also termed India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as “water terrorism.”

Economic Reform and Governance

Linking economic stability with national security, the president stressed the need for institutional reforms, tax system transparency, and prudent public spending. He emphasized that Pakistan cannot afford to lag in clean energy development and technological innovation.

He called for strengthening social protection programs, particularly through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), to empower marginalized communities. “Security, economy, and constitutional governance are interconnected,” he said, urging unity to ensure economic gains reach ordinary citizens.

Tight Security, Opposition Protest

The session was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, foreign diplomats, and senior political leaders, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Extraordinary security arrangements were enforced inside and outside Parliament House, with police commandos deployed and strict checks on access routes.

As the session began, opposition members staged a protest, chanting slogans against the president, creating a tense atmosphere in the chamber.

President, PM vow to continue relentless operation against terrorism

President

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan’s commitment to defeating terrorism was absolute and reiterated that there could be no soft corner for terrorists or those who supported, financed, sheltered or justified them.

“There can be no negotiations with those who raise arms against the state or target our children,” the president said in a message on the 11th anniversary of the APS Peshawar attack.

He said the memory of the APS martyrs strengthened their resolve. Pakistan would never allow the enemies of peace to succeed.

Today, he said, they remembered the innocent children and staff of the Army Public School whose lives were taken in the brutal terrorist attack on 16 December 2014, adding their sacrifice remained a solemn reminder of the heavy price the nation had paid in the fight against terrorism.

The president said that they strongly condemned the Indian sponsored terrorism in Pakistan.

The president also paid tribute to the security forces, law enforcement agencies and intelligence services whose efforts had prevented many such tragedies.

He resolved that they would continue to pursue every terrorist and every facilitator until justice was done.

“Let me take this opportunity to warn the apologists, facilitators and supporters of terrorists that the people and the armed forces of Pakistan shall not spare them and will defeat them, no matter what political, ideological or fake religious garb they try to shroud themselves in,” he stressed.

Prime Minister Sharif paying tribute to the martyrs of the Army Public School Peshawar tragedy, reiterated his government’s resolve to maintain an uncompromising zero-tolerance stance on terrorism and continue relentless and full force anti-terror operations till the elimination of the scourge.

The prime minister, in his message on the APS attack anniversary, said that the great sacrifices rendered for Pakistan’s bright future would never go in vain as the state, security institutions, and the people stood united and determined to eliminate terrorism and extremism.

“Today, we pay tribute to the martyrs of the Army Public School Peshawar tragedy, who sacrificed their precious lives for the future of our beloved homeland. This heart-wrenching incident was a great ordeal for the entire nation, which deeply saddened us but failed to break our resolve,” he remarked.

He said that the sacrifices of the innocent children, teachers, and staff of APS would always remain etched in the national conscience and only the elimination of terrorism from the country would be the meaningful justice for this heinous tragedy.

The prime minister said that the entire nation shared the grief of the martyrs’ bereaved families, and saluted their patience and resilience.

“Today, as Pakistan once again faces the menace of terrorism, with security personnel and innocent civilians being targeted in various parts of the country, the APS tragedy reminds us that our struggle against terrorism is not yet over,” he said and prayed for the highest rank in paradise for all the martyrs of this anti-terror war and patience for their families.

President, PM stress renewal of national pledge to Iqbal’s vision

President

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for reaffirming the nation’s dedication to Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s guiding principles, urging the people to draw inspiration from his vision for a prosperous future.

In a message on the birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal being observed on November 9, President  said that as they paid tribute to his remarkable personality, they renewed their commitment to his principles and to striving for a Pakistan ‘that is prosperous, peaceful and united. Let us draw strength from his life and ideals as we work together to build a brighter tomorrow.’

Today, he said they marked the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the poet-philosopher whose vision helped awaken the spirit of independence and self-determination among the Muslims of the Subcontinent.

In his address at the All-India Muslim League session in 1930, he emphasized the importance of securing the rights of Muslims which laid the foundation for a sovereign nation, he added.

“Iqbal’s legacy goes well beyond his literary works such as Asrar-e-Khudi, Rumuz-e-Bekhudi and Bang-e-Dara, which explore matters of identity, spirituality and freedom. His insistence on political representation for Muslims and on values rooted in Islam has left a lasting imprint on Pakistan’s national identity,” President Secretariat Press Wing, in a press release, quoted the president as saying.

The president prayed that Allama Iqbal’s vision might guide them in their shared endeavour for progress, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that in the light of thought of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the government of Pakistan was committed to provide such an education for the young generation that was not only a source of livelihood but also improved intellect and character.

In a message on Iqbal Day celebrated on November 9, he said, “Today, on the birth anniversary of the Poet of the East, thinker of Islam and architect of Pakistan, Allama Iqbal, we pay tribute to his thoughts and insights and his extraordinary role for the Islamic nation and the Muslims of the subcontinent.”

“Allama Iqbal is the name of such a spiritual and intellectual force that lit a candle of light in the darkness of slavery, and gave a message of self-reliance to a nation that was in despair,” he added.

The prime minister said, “Allama Iqbal taught the lesson that faith, knowledge and action are the pillars on which a living nation builds itself. Even today, Iqbal’s thought provides guidance in national and global situations.”

“Iqbal’s youth is the architect of the nation and the falcon of the future,” he remarked.

He said, “The ideological formation of our education in the light of Iqbal’s thought is our need as on it our bright and strong future depends.”

“Allama Iqbal’s dream was that the youth should write their own destiny and create a new world with their own imagination. To give practical form to this thought, the government has started several programmes including Uraan Pakistan to provide modern education, skills, and employment opportunities for the youth.”

The prime minister said, “Iqbal was an Islamic thinker and Iqbal’s dream was the unity of the Islamic world and the establishment of peace in the world. He saw the Muslim Ummah as one body. Today, the world needs this message of Iqbal so that there is brotherhood instead of sectarianism, love instead of hatred, and justice instead of use of might.”

“Iqbal’s thoughts are a guide for national policy, educational priorities, and individual and collective life. We have to make Iqbal’s thoughts the focal point of our actions so that Pakistan can truly become the Pakistan of Iqbal’s dreams, where knowledge and action, love and tolerance, and peace and justice prevail,” he continued.

He said, “Pakistan will continue to play its constructive role in promoting the unity of the Muslim Ummah and world peace in the light of Iqbal’s thoughts. Long live Pakistan!”
