GUWAHATI, India: India completed a record chase of 406 runs against the West Indies on Wednesday, with captain Shubman Gill hitting an unbeaten double century to seal a 2-0 series victory in the three-match ODI series.
The West Indies posted 405-7 after being sent in to bat, with three of their batters scoring centuries. John Campbell made 101, captain Shai Hope scored 104 and Amir Jangoo hit 114.
The total was the West Indies’ highest in ODI cricket, according to the report.
India chased down the target in 43.3 overs for the loss of two wickets.
Gill struck 223 not out from 133 balls, hitting 26 fours and eight sixes. The innings was reported as the fastest double century in ODI cricket.
Rohit Sharma also scored a century, making 101 from 75 balls. He and Gill put on 255 runs for the opening wicket.
Virat Kohli scored 29 before being dismissed, while Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 31.
For the West Indies, Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales took one wicket each.
With the victory, India became only the second team after South Africa to successfully chase a target of more than 400 in ODI cricket.
