KARACHI: Pakistani actress Saba Qamar recently addressed criticism from fellow actress Javeria Abbasi through a story posted on her Instagram account.
Saba Qamar clarified that her previous remarks had been misinterpreted, stating, “Astaghfirullah, my words were misunderstood.” She further emphasized that everyone has the right to express their opinions, and societal dialogue is not possible without protecting freedom of speech.
The actress highlighted that freedom of expression is a fundamental right, allowing individuals to share their thoughts openly.
She expressed concern over the limitations imposed on what people feel they can say or do, adding that it is disheartening when fear or restrictions prevent people from speaking their minds.
“I hope we move towards a society where every voice is heard with respect and without fear,” Saba Qamar remarked.

The controversy stems from Javeria Abbasi’s recent appearance on Ahmed Butt’s podcast, where she commented on the importance of respecting the city that made someone famous and expressed objections to Saba Qamar’s approach.
The comments relate back to an earlier program where Saba Qamar, when asked about relocating permanently to Karachi, had replied “Astaghfirullah” and stated that she does not prefer the Sindh capital.
