LONDON: Bollywood actress Hema Malini has dismissed rumours of family discord, emphasizing that there is no animosity within the family and that everyone was very close to her late husband, legendary actor Dharmendra.

The veteran actor was recently honored posthumously at the 79th BAFTA Awards in London. His wife, Hema Malini, accepted the tribute on his behalf. Speaking at the ceremony, she said, “It was a beautiful moment, and he truly deserved it. This is not just an honor for us but for the entire country. No Indian artist has received this recognition this year.”

Hema Malini added that Dharmendra’s fans spanned the globe and that he left an impact not only as an actor but also as a human being.

Addressing questions about alleged family tensions, she said: “There is nothing negative. Papa is there, and everyone will do anything for him. Whether it’s Esha, Ahana, Sunny, or Bobby, they all loved Dharm Ji very much. They liked each other a lot. There is absolutely no hatred in the family. Dharm Ji was a source of love for everyone.”

The legendary actor passed away in November of last year, leaving a lasting legacy in Indian cinema.

In a long post on X, Hema Malini wrote, “Dharm Ji! He meant so much to me — a loving husband, the father of our two daughters, a friend, philosopher, guide, poet, and someone who was always there whenever I needed him.”

She added that despite his fame and popularity as a public figure, Dharmendra’s humility set him apart, and his immortal legacy and achievements in the film industry will always be remembered.

Hema Malini further expressed, “My personal loss is indescribable, and the void left behind will remain for life. After so many years together, I have countless cherished memories to keep him alive in my heart.”

Alongside her message, she shared multiple photographs of herself with Dharmendra.

Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on Monday, 24 November, in Mumbai. Fans and colleagues across social media expressed deep grief over his demise.

MUMBAI: Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89. According to Indian media, he breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Outside his residence, numerous Bollywood actors and their families were seen arriving in white attire to pay their respects.

Renowned filmmaker Karan Johar confirmed Dharmendra’s death on Instagram and paid tribute to the iconic actor.

Reports indicate that Dharmendra had been hospitalized two weeks earlier due to breathing difficulties, and he had also undergone eye surgery in April of this year.

Dharmendra’s final film, “Akis”, which is scheduled to release on December 25, showcases his acting prowess for the last time.

The actor began his career in 1960 with the film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere and was honored with India’s Padma Bhushan in 2012, the country’s third-highest civilian award. Over his six-decade career, he starred in award-winning films such as Sholay, Yaadon Ki Baraat, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Naukar Biwi Ka, Phool Aur Patthar, and Phool Aur Patli.

Born as Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol in a village in Ludhiana, Punjab, he married Prakash Kaur at the age of 19 in 1954 before entering the film industry, and later married actress Hema Malini.

Even at 89, Dharmendra remained active on social media, frequently sharing videos promoting healthy living. Many posts showed him driving tractors, tending to his farm, and offering his fans lessons in simple living and agriculture.

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has shared a touching revelation about his legendary father, Dharmendra, revealing that in the early days of his career, his father often had no money even for basic necessities like buying clothes.

In a recent interview, Sunny spoke about Dharmendra’s struggles in the film industry alongside renowned actor-director Manoj Kumar.

He recalled that both started their careers around the same time, with a strong bond between the two. “As a child, we always saw them together,” Sunny said.

Sunny further explained that Dharmendra once shared how, in the early years, he and Manoj Kumar would sometimes be without money. “My father would have nothing in his pocket. Manoj Ji would occasionally have some money and would say, ‘Come on Dharm, let’s buy two shirts,'” Sunny shared.

He added, “There was a beautiful bond between them back then, and I feel that was a beautiful time that can never come back.”

Manoj Kumar, a beloved figure in the Indian film industry, passed away this year at the age of 87.

Recently, several major Indian media outlets, reported false news about Dharmendra’s death, which was later refuted by his family. The misleading reports sparked outrage, particularly from the Deol family.

Sunny Deol was visibly upset when he confronted reporters outside his home, using strong language and questioning the media’s lack of empathy. “Do you have parents, children in your house? If you do, why are you posting such videos? Don’t you have any shame?” he asked, expressing his anger at the sensationalized reporting.

Several major Indian media outlets, including India Today, ABP News, News18 and Hindustan Times, aired reports on Tuesday morning claiming that legendary actor Dharmendra had passed away — a claim swiftly denied by his daughter Esha Deol.

Indian media reports had alleged that the actor’s team confirmed his death on the morning of November 11. Dharmendra had been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital a day earlier and was reportedly on a ventilator, leading to widespread speculation.

Even prominent journalist Rajdeep Sardesai and actor–writer Javed Akhtar posted condolences on social media, further amplifying the misinformation.

However, Esha Deol later took to Instagram to refute the rumours, and now a statement from his wife, Hema Malini, has also emerged.

Expressing anger, Hema Malini condemned the false reports, stating: “What is happening is unacceptable! How can responsible channels spread fake news about someone who is undergoing treatment and recovering?”

She added, “This is disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give our family privacy.”
