LONDON: Bollywood actress Hema Malini has dismissed rumours of family discord, emphasizing that there is no animosity within the family and that everyone was very close to her late husband, legendary actor Dharmendra.

The veteran actor was recently honored posthumously at the 79th BAFTA Awards in London. His wife, Hema Malini, accepted the tribute on his behalf. Speaking at the ceremony, she said, “It was a beautiful moment, and he truly deserved it. This is not just an honor for us but for the entire country. No Indian artist has received this recognition this year.”

Hema Malini added that Dharmendra’s fans spanned the globe and that he left an impact not only as an actor but also as a human being.

Addressing questions about alleged family tensions, she said: “There is nothing negative. Papa is there, and everyone will do anything for him. Whether it’s Esha, Ahana, Sunny, or Bobby, they all loved Dharm Ji very much. They liked each other a lot. There is absolutely no hatred in the family. Dharm Ji was a source of love for everyone.”

The legendary actor passed away in November of last year, leaving a lasting legacy in Indian cinema.

MUMBAI: Following the death of Bollywood legend Dharmendra, his wife, veteran actress Hema Malini, has shared a heartfelt message along with memorable photographs on social media.

In a long post on X, Hema Malini wrote, “Dharm Ji! He meant so much to me — a loving husband, the father of our two daughters, a friend, philosopher, guide, poet, and someone who was always there whenever I needed him.”

She added that despite his fame and popularity as a public figure, Dharmendra’s humility set him apart, and his immortal legacy and achievements in the film industry will always be remembered.

Hema Malini further expressed, “My personal loss is indescribable, and the void left behind will remain for life. After so many years together, I have countless cherished memories to keep him alive in my heart.”

Alongside her message, she shared multiple photographs of herself with Dharmendra.

Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on Monday, 24 November, in Mumbai. Fans and colleagues across social media expressed deep grief over his demise.

Indian media reports reveal that veteran Bollywood actress Hema Malini had once hoped for her only son, Abhishek Bachchan, to become the husband of fellow actress Isha Deol.

She mentioned Abhishek in front of me because he was one of the most eligible bachelors at the time. She wanted me to marry a good person, and she thought Abhishek would be perfect for me. But I didn’t want to marry him. To me, Abhishek felt like an elder brother, so I politely declined my mother’s wish.”

When asked if her mother had later suggested Vivek Oberoi for marriage, Isha firmly denied it, saying, “Mothers can think a lot of things, but definitely not Vivek. He’s not my type.”

For context, Isha Deol married Bharat Takhtani in 2012. The couple welcomed their first daughter in 2017 and their second in 2019. In 2024, after 12 years of marriage, Isha Deol and Bharat Takhtani announced their separation.

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Sunny Deol lashed out at media representatives outside his residence after false reports of his father Dharmendra’s death circulated, using strong language to express his anger.

A video shared on Indian media Thursday morning shows Sunny Deol confronting journalists, asking, “Do you have parents or children at home?” He further criticized them for posting the misleading news, saying, “If you do, then why are you sharing this video? Don’t you feel ashamed?”

Meanwhile, veteran actress and Dharmendra’s wife, Hema Malini, addressed the media regarding her husband’s health. She confirmed that Dharmendra is improving, stating that although his health had been a major concern and their children were unable to sleep, the family is relieved he has been discharged from the hospital.

Hema Malini added, “This is not an easy time for me, but I cannot falter because of my responsibilities. We are happy he is back home; everything else is in God’s hands.” She also requested fans to keep Dharmendra in their prayers.

The false news of Dharmendra’s death had been reported two days ago by major Indian outlets, including, prompting strong condemnation from his family. Hema Malini tweeted, “What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about someone undergoing treatment and recovering? Please respect our family’s privacy.”

Several major Indian media outlets, including India Today, ABP News, News18 and Hindustan Times, aired reports on Tuesday morning claiming that legendary actor Dharmendra had passed away — a claim swiftly denied by his daughter Esha Deol.

Indian media reports had alleged that the actor’s team confirmed his death on the morning of November 11. Dharmendra had been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital a day earlier and was reportedly on a ventilator, leading to widespread speculation.

Even prominent journalist Rajdeep Sardesai and actor–writer Javed Akhtar posted condolences on social media, further amplifying the misinformation.

However, Esha Deol later took to Instagram to refute the rumours, and now a statement from his wife, Hema Malini, has also emerged.

Expressing anger, Hema Malini condemned the false reports, stating: “What is happening is unacceptable! How can responsible channels spread fake news about someone who is undergoing treatment and recovering?”

She added, “This is disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give our family privacy.”
