Riyadh: The Saudi Cabinet has approved an agreement with Qatar to establish an electric high-speed railway connecting the two countries.

The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

The 785-kilometer railway line will link Riyadh and Doha, with trains capable of reaching speeds exceeding 300 km/h.

The project will also connect key stations such as Dammam and Al-Ahsa, reducing travel time between the two capitals to approximately two hours.

At the start of the meeting, the cabinet was briefed on a recent telephone conversation between Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the crown prince’s official meetings during visits to Turkey and Germany with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Chancellor Friedrich Merz, respectively.

The cabinet welcomed the outcomes of these visits, emphasizing their role in strengthening bilateral relations and reaffirming the mutual commitment to further enhance cooperation at all levels.
