ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has arrived in Tehran for a second visit within 24 hours, according to official sources, as discussions continue on regional diplomacy and Iran–U.S. negotiations.

Sources said Naqvi is expected to hold meetings with senior Iranian leadership regarding ongoing diplomatic efforts related to Iran–US talks.

The visit comes just days after Naqvi’s previous trip to Iran, during which he met President Masoud Pezeshkian, parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

During earlier meetings, officials discussed bilateral relations and the evolving situation in the Middle East, diplomatic sources added.

After his previous Tehran visit, Naqvi reportedly traveled directly to Balochistan, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir were also present.

Shan Masood may offer to step down as Pakistan Test captain after whitewash

Shan Masood

LAHORE: Pakistan test captain Shan Masood may offer to step down following his team’s 2-0 series whitewash against Bangladesh, according to media reports.

Sources said Masood is expected to meet Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi after returning home and could present his resignation from the captaincy. A final decision on his future will rest with the PCB chairman.

Masood was appointed test captain in 2023. Under his leadership, Pakistan has lost 12 of its 16 test matches, increasing pressure on the 36-year-old batter.

After Pakistan’s 78-run defeat in the second test in Sylhet, Masood apologized to fans and acknowledged the team’s disappointing performances.

“We are deeply disappointed by these results and apologize to the nation for not meeting expectations,” Masood said.

He said Pakistan needed to focus on improving its overall test cricket structure rather than blaming individual players.

Masood declined to comment directly on repeated questions about his captaincy but said he remained committed to helping Pakistan test cricket improve in any role.

Pakistan’s next test assignment is a three-match series in England in July.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has accused India of secretly running terror networks within Pakistan, supplying funding and operational targets to proscribed militant groups.

Addressing a press conference in the federal capital, Naqvi claimed that India is financing and directing groups such as Daesh and the Taliban, while several terrorist factions are being operated from Afghan territory. “I am stating this with absolute clarity: all funding and targeting of proscribed organizations is being done by India,” he said, adding that India has placed these groups on the frontlines while remaining hidden in the background.

The interior minister further alleged that although the world may remain silent today, a time will come when every country will name India as a sponsor of terrorism. He said India has increased its budget threefold since May, and Pakistani authorities are fully aware of these developments.

Naqvi stated that after failing to achieve its objectives through conventional means, India has now resorted to indirect warfare. “No matter how much India increases its budget, even tenfold, we will defeat them,” he asserted, adding that Pakistan is effectively in a state of war, whether in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or Balochistan.

Referring to recent security operations, the interior minister said that terrorist attacks in Balochistan were effectively countered, and emphasized the need to further strengthen community intelligence. He noted that timely actions by intelligence agencies had foiled several major terror plots.

Mohsin Naqvi revealed that a total of four terrorists have been arrested, and said more details would be shared in the coming days. He also confirmed that the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has been declared a globally banned organization.

Concluding his remarks, the interior minister said that terrorism is a regional threat and urged the international community to raise its voice. “The world must realize who will suffer if this war spreads further,” he warned, adding that in the coming days, the Deputy Prime Minister is expected to brief stakeholders on the situation.

“We are fighting a war against terrorism and bearing the cost in the form of our own martyrs,” Naqvi said, reiterating Pakistan’s resolve to continue counterterrorism efforts.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup participation decision expected on Friday or Monday

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup

ISLAMABAD: The final decision regarding Pakistan’s participation in the ICC T20 World Cup is expected to be announced by Friday or next Monday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed.

Naqvi met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the matter, during which all available options were considered. The Prime Minister directed Naqvi to resolve the issue while taking all aspects into account.

Speaking on social media platform X, Naqvi said he briefed the Prime Minister on the current ICC situation, and that the decision on Pakistan’s participation would be made after careful consideration.

Sources revealed that during the meeting, Naqvi highlighted the ICC’s double standards, stating that the organization applies one set of rules for India and another for other countries.

He recalled that India had previously refused to play in Pakistan during the Champions Trophy, after which a neutral venue was provided.

Naqvi also noted that Bangladesh had informed the ICC of security concerns, declining to tour India, but was instead excluded from the World Cup rather than being offered an alternative venue.

The PCB chairman further stated that if Pakistan decides not to participate, it would forfeit the significant participation revenue, but refusing to play against India would inflict greater losses on India.

While official confirmation on the final prices is yet to be made, media reports suggest the valuations are likely to be higher than previous seasons.

Notably, unlike 2016 when franchise prices were quoted in US dollars, all financial transactions for PSL 11 will now be conducted in Pakistani rupees.

Six cities in Pakistan—Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Hyderabad, Muzaffarabad, and Gilgit—have been shortlisted, with two cities to be selected for the new franchises, expanding the PSL from six to eight teams.

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has decided to tighten measures against individuals traveling abroad on fake documents.

A high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain resulted in several key decisions.

Authorities resolved to make the issuance of Protector documents foolproof and implement reforms in the immigration system to facilitate travelers. Federal ministers have been asked to submit final recommendations within seven days.
