ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the current government will complete its constitutional five-year term and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will remain in office for the full duration.
Naqvi said he would advise the prime minister to have the performance of all federal ministries independently assessed by a third party, with the findings made public to ensure transparency and accountability.
He said an independent review would help determine the performance of each ministry. Naqvi also defended his own record, saying his attendance at federal cabinet meetings was around 70%.
Responding to criticism over previous remarks about governance, Naqvi said he had referred to systemic issues accumulated over the past 80 years rather than criticizing the current administration. “If the system had functioned properly, the country would have progressed much further,” he said.
The interior minister dismissed speculation about differences with the prime minister, saying some people wanted to create the impression that their relationship had deteriorated.
He praised Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, saying the premier works 14 to 16 hours a day and has overseen improvements in tax collection, diplomatic engagement and other areas despite inheriting a flawed system.
