Ukraine: A Russian drone strike on a shopping center in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown killed at least 14 people and wounded more than 120 others, including 22 children, Ukrainian officials said Friday.
Two drones struck the shopping center in Kryvyi Rih as the city was crowded with shoppers, many of them women and children. The attack sparked a major fire, sending thick smoke through the building and complicating rescue efforts.
Rescue workers continued searching the damaged site and recovered more bodies as emergency operations progressed. Officials said 29 of the wounded were in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could increase.
Zelenskyy described the attack as a serious and deliberate act and said a second drone struck the area while volunteers and emergency workers were carrying out rescue operations.
The attack came amid an intensification of Russian aerial strikes across Ukraine. A Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv a day earlier reportedly killed at least 16 people.
Kryvyi Rih, the city where Zelenskyy was born, has previously been targeted by Russian attacks. A strike in April 2025 killed 20 people, including nine children.
