SYLHET, Bangladesh: Bangladesh national cricket team were bowled out for 278 in their first innings against Pakistan national cricket team in the second Test on Friday, while Pakistan reached 21 without loss at stumps on day one.

Pakistan captain Shan Masood won the toss and opted to field first at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, putting the hosts in to bat.

Bangladesh opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy fell early on just the second ball of the innings to Mohammad Abbas, giving Pakistan an early breakthrough.

Litton Das top-scored with a brilliant 126, while Tanzid Hasan made 26, Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 29, Mominul Haque added 22 and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed 23.

For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad claimed four wickets, Abbas took three, while Hasan Ali and Sajid Khan chipped in with two and one wicket respectively.

In reply, Pakistan finished the opening day on 21 without loss, with openers Azan Awais (13) and Abdullah Fazal (8) unbeaten at the crease.

Pakistan made three changes to their lineup, bringing in Babar Azam, Khurram Shahzad and Sajid Khan in place of Imam-ul-Haq, Shaheen Afridi and Noman Ali.

Bangladesh lead the two-match series 1-0 after winning the first Test by 104 runs.

Babar Azam likely to return for second Test after minor knee injury

DHAKA: Pakistani top batter Babar Azam is expected to be available for the second Test against Bangladesh national cricket team after medical reports confirmed that his knee injury is not serious.

According to sources, the Pakistan batter actively participated in practice sessions before experiencing discomfort in his left knee during training. Following the complaint, the team management arranged an MRI scan as a precautionary measure.

Sources said Babar was rested for the opening Test purely on precautionary grounds and not due to any major injury concern.

Officials further clarified that the former Pakistan captain did not request rest himself; rather, the decision was taken by the team management to avoid aggravating the injury.

The star batter is now likely to return for the second Test between Pakistan national cricket team and Bangladesh, scheduled to begin on May 16 in Sylhet.

New Zealand crushes West Indies by 9 wickets in second test

Wellington: New Zealand defeated the West Indies by 9 wickets in the second Test of the series, held in Wellington.

Winning the toss, New Zealand invited the West Indies to bat first. The visitors were dismissed for 205 runs, with Blair Tickner taking 4 wickets, Michael Rae 3, and Jacob Duffy and Glenn Phillips one each.

New Zealand declared their first innings at 278/9, with Mitchell Hay scoring 61 and Devon Conway 60. The West Indies bowlers included Anderson Phillip (3 wickets), Kemar Roach (2), and one each for Jaden Seales, Odean Shields, Justin Greaves, and Roston Chase.

In their second innings, West Indies managed only 128 runs, as Jacob Duffy took 5 wickets, Michael Rae 3, and Zack Folkes 1.

Chasing a modest 56-run target, New Zealand achieved it comfortably, losing just one wicket. Devon Conway scored 28* and Ken Williamson 16*; captain Tom Latham made 9.

With this win, New Zealand leads the three-Test series 1-0. The third and final Test will be played in Mount Maunganui from December 18, forming part of the World Test Championship.
