UN Chief expresses optimism over Islamabad talks

New York: Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has expressed optimism regarding the ongoing Islamabad negotiations, highlighting Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran.

Guterres stated that Pakistan has provided a valuable diplomatic opportunity for both sides, helping to reduce tensions and create space for constructive engagement.

He added that United Nations envoys are present in the region to support ongoing diplomatic efforts and promote peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The UN chief emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue, noting that such initiatives are crucial for de-escalation and long-term regional stability.

UAE recognized as biggest humanitarian donor worldwide

The United Nations (UN) has recognized the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the world’s largest aid donor, highlighting the country’s active role in providing humanitarian assistance globally.

According to international reports, the UAE’s annual aid reached $1.5 billion, with Palestine receiving the highest support in 2025. Nearly 44% of global aid to Palestinians in Gaza came from the UAE.

The country also provided $600 million in aid and 90,000 tons of humanitarian supplies during the Sudan crisis and offered immediate relief to earthquake victims in Afghanistan, demonstrating a rapid response to global emergencies.

In parallel, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced the launch of the “National System for Volunteering and Social Participation”, aimed at enhancing the impact of volunteer work, supporting non-profit organizations, and strengthening their role in sustainable development.

Sheikh Mohammed stated that the initiative, launched from Qasr Al Watan, will increase the number of volunteers to 600,000, introduce a unified digital platform, and expand the reach of non-profit organizations.

The plan also includes a 30% increase in the number of supported organizations and the creation of a 100 million-dirham fund to aid various social projects and institutions.

KARACHI:  The United Nations has announced the appointment of popular film and television star Hania Aamir as its new National Goodwill Ambassador in Pakistan.

According to the organization, Hania will play a key role in promoting awareness on women’s rights, gender equality, and empowerment across the country.

In an announcement shared on Instagram, the UN stated that through her new role, Hania aims to use her platform to raise awareness, inspire action, and amplify the voices of women and girls nationwide.

Expressing her gratitude, Hania Aamir said that achieving equality and empowering women remains her top priority. “Every girl deserves the right to pursue her dreams,” she emphasized.

It is worth mentioning that a few days ago, Hania Aamir was reportedly unwell during an award ceremony in Houston, USA, but has since fully recovered.+
