TEHRAN: Mediators have proposed a 10-day ceasefire between Iran and the United States to help reduce tensions and create an opportunity to revive diplomatic negotiations, according to an Iranian official cited by Reuters.
The official said the proposal is under consideration as part of efforts to end the confrontation between the two countries.
The temporary truce is intended to provide space for discussions on restoring a broader agreement between Tehran and Washington.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the purpose of the proposed ceasefire is to identify pathways for reviving an interim agreement, adding that mediating countries are actively working to ease tensions.
Baghaei said messages from Washington have continued to reach Tehran through third-party mediators, indicating that diplomatic channels have remained open despite the heightened tensions.
He also warned that if the conflict expands further, the United States would bear responsibility. Baghaei added that Iran is prepared to respond to any attempt by U.S. forces to seize Kharg Island, a key oil export terminal in the Persian Gulf.
