Pakistan beat West Indies by 8 wickets to draw Test series 1-1

PORT OF SPAIN: Pakistan defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test on Thursday, leveling the two-match series 1-1 and ending a run of eight consecutive away Test defeats.

Chasing a modest target of 75, Pakistan reached 76-2, with Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam remaining unbeaten on 24 runs each. Earlier, Imam-ul-Haq scored 9, while Azan Awais made 18.

Pakistan’s bowlers set up the victory by dismissing the West Indies for 117 in their second innings on the fourth day. Spinners Sajid Khan and Ali Usman claimed four wickets each.

The West Indies resumed the day on 103-6 but lost their remaining wickets for just 14 more runs. Injured opener Brandon King did not bat due to a back injury.

The victory marked Pakistan’s first away Test win since defeating Sri Lanka in 2023.

West Indies announce Test series schedule against Pakistan

ST JOHN’S: Cricket West Indies has announced the schedule for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, confirming fixtures to be played in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Pakistan national cricket team will tour the West Indies in July for a two-Test series, with both matches scheduled in Trinidad.

The first Test will be played from July 25 to 29 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, marking the first-ever Test match to be hosted at the venue.

The second and final Test of the series will take place from August 2 to 6 at Queen’s Park Oval.

Pakistan Hockey Federation invites South Korea for four-match Test series

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has invited South Korea to tour Pakistan for a proposed four-match Test series, officials said.

PHF President Muhammad Uddin Wani said during an appearance on a local sports program that discussions are still in the early stages.

He expressed hope that the series could be held in Pakistan in the last week of July, depending on final agreements between both sides.

Wani said consultations are ongoing regarding venues, adding that matches could either be played in a single city or hosted across multiple cities.

He said the series, if finalized, would mark an important step toward reviving international hockey in Pakistan and help strengthen the country’s presence in global hockey.

Pakistan is ranked 12th in the world, while South Korea holds the 20th position. Officials noted that South Korea has not qualified for the upcoming Hockey World Cup scheduled to be held in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The proposed series is expected to serve as preparation for Pakistan ahead of major international competitions later this year.
