New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani calls for immediate end to Iran war

New York Mayor

NEW YORK: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has called for an immediate end to the ongoing war with Iran, saying the conflict is costing civilian lives and placing a heavy burden on ordinary citizens.

In a post on the social media platform X, Mamdani said the war began three months ago without public consent and has already resulted in thousands of civilian deaths.

He claimed that 13 U.S. soldiers were also killed in the conflict, adding that working-class families are bearing the economic consequences of the war.

The mayor said rising fuel and food prices in the United States have severely impacted household budgets, arguing that people are paying the price for a war initiated without congressional approval.

Mamdani added that every lost life and every dollar spent reflects what he described as an irresponsible policy decision, urging an immediate halt to the conflict.

NEW YORK: Following strong public criticism over FIFA World Cup ticket prices, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has introduced a limited affordable ticket scheme for local residents.

Under the new initiative, tickets will be available for $50, aimed at making the tournament more accessible to city residents.

According to international media reports, around 1,000 tickets have been allocated for New York residents for selected group-stage and knockout matches. However, the final match is not included in the scheme.

Officials said the tickets will be distributed through a lottery system to ensure transparency.

Reports indicate that approximately 150 seats per match will be reserved under the program, and successful applicants will be allowed to purchase a maximum of two tickets each. The package will also include transport facilities to and from match venues.

The mayor said the initiative aims to connect local residents with the FIFA World Cup and reduce exclusion caused by high ticket prices, stressing that major sporting events should not be limited only to wealthy spectators.

The announcement comes amid ongoing criticism of FIFA’s dynamic pricing system, with various groups calling for lower prices and greater access for local fans.

Trump confirms no discussion on Netanyahu’s arrest with Mamdani

Trump confirms

Washington, D.C.: Newly elected New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, where they discussed mutual interests and cooperation on city and national matters.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, President Trump described the discussion as “good and productive,” expressing hope that Mamdani would manage New York’s affairs effectively. He added, “We will support him and provide every possible assistance to meet the expectations of the people.”

Trump also remarked that the mayor’s decisions could surprise conservatives, saying, “I hope Mamdani will astonish some conservatives.”

Responding to a question regarding the possible arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump clarified that the issue was not discussed during the meeting.

On international affairs, Trump highlighted his efforts in establishing peace in the Middle East, stating that he had facilitated eight peace agreements, including initiatives to end conflicts between Pakistan and India. He emphasized that both he and Mamdani share the goal of reducing wars globally.

During the meeting, Mamdani, without naming any country, criticized U.S. funding policies for Israel, stating that supporters of both he and Trump agree that American taxpayer money should not fund countries violating human rights.

When asked by a journalist whether he considered Trump a fascist, Mamdani began to respond, but Trump interjected, saying he had no objection if Mamdani called him that, noting, “It’s easier to say than explain, and I don’t mind.”

Mamdani also confirmed that he discussed the issue of alleged genocide in Gaza with President Trump during their meeting.
