Taylor Swift enters conversation for Country Music Hall of Fame induction

Taylor Swift enters

Taylor Swift has already conquered the music industry with multiple Grammys, record-breaking tours, and global influence but one major honor still awaits: a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Now that 2026 marks her eligibility under the Hall’s 20-year rule, discussions have shifted from whether she will be inducted to how soon it might happen.

Swift first emerged in 2006 with her debut, quickly making an impact with early hits like “Tim McGraw” and “Teardrops on My Guitar.” At just a teenager, she helped introduce a new generation to country music before eventually becoming one of the biggest global pop stars.

Despite her crossover success, her country roots remain a major part of her legacy. She has earned 14 Grammy Awards and built a catalog that continues to dominate charts, reinforcing her lasting influence on the industry.

Industry opinions are divided on her potential induction timeline. Some believe she could achieve a rare first-ballot induction, while others think the Hall may prioritize long-standing country veterans before honoring a star still active at the peak of her career.

Swift’s past recognition offers a strong indicator of her standing—she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility, reflecting how quickly her contributions have been acknowledged.

Her storytelling style also helped reshape country music, expanding its reach far beyond traditional audiences and pushing the genre onto a global stage.

Whether 2026 becomes the year of her induction or not, one thing is certain: Taylor Swift’s place in country music history is already secure—the only question left is when the Hall of Fame will make it official.

Lionel Messi reaches 900 career goals in historic milestone

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi has become only the second player in elite men’s football history to score 900 career goals, joining Cristiano Ronaldo in the exclusive club of football legends to reach the landmark.

The 38-year-old Argentine World Cup winner achieved the feat with a left-footed finish during Inter Miami’s 1-1 draw against Nashville SC in the Concacaf Champions Cup. The goal came 21 years after Messi netted his first senior goal for Barcelona as a 17-year-old in 2005.

Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano praised the achievement, calling Messi’s goal tally “insane” and highlighting the privilege of witnessing so many of his goals up close.

Messi reached the milestone in 1,142 appearances for club and country, nearly 100 fewer games than Cristiano Ronaldo, who reached 900 goals in 1,236 matches in September 2024. Ronaldo has since pushed his total to 965 goals and continues to aim for the 1,000-goal mark.

The majority of Messi’s goals came during his legendary spell at Barcelona, where he scored 672 times. He also netted 32 goals for Paris Saint-Germain and 81 for Inter Miami, along with 115 goals for Argentina, helping his country win the 2022 World Cup.

Known for delivering in big moments, 175 of Messi’s goals have come in knockout matches, including 35 in finals. In European competition, he has scored 129 UEFA Champions League goals, second only to Ronaldo’s 140.

Despite Messi’s historic achievement, it was a disappointing night for Inter Miami, who were eliminated from the competition on away goals after a 0-0 first-leg result.

PSX falls sharply as oil price surge and Gulf tensions weigh on investor sentiment

PSX falls sharply

KARACHI: Stocks at the bourse declined on Thursday as a sharp rise in global oil prices—triggered by escalating attacks on Gulf energy infrastructure renewed concerns over inflation and fuel costs, leading to widespread profit-taking.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index at the Pakistan Stock Exchange traded within a wide range, hitting a high of 152,698.51, down 1,593.74 points (1.03%), and a low of 150,728.17, down 3,564.08 points (2.3%), compared to the previous close of 154,292.25.

Market analysts attributed the downturn to rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Ahfaz Mustafa, CEO of Ismail Iqbal Securities, said the surge in oil prices—following attacks on LNG infrastructure in Qatar—had created significant selling pressure.

He added that expectations of a fuel price hike in Pakistan, along with weakening macroeconomic indicators, further dampened investor confidence.

According to QatarEnergy, Qatar’s primary gas hub sustained extensive damage after two waves of Iranian strikes, intensifying fears of supply disruptions amid the ongoing regional conflict.

Missile strikes targeting Ras Laffan Industrial City damaged key gas-to-liquids and liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, sparking fires that were later brought under control. Officials confirmed no casualties, while the Ministry of Interior Qatar and defence authorities stated that the attacks involved ballistic missiles launched from Iran.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump warned Tehran against further escalation, threatening a strong response if attacks continue. He also noted that Israel had struck facilities at the South Pars gas field, though the United States had no prior knowledge of the operation.

The South Pars/North Dome field—the world’s largest known gas reserve shared between Iran and Qatar—remains critical to regional energy supplies, with a significant portion of Iran’s domestic gas output dependent on it.

US will destroy Pars Gas field if Iran attacks Qatar, warns Donald Trump

US will destroy

Washington: US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States had no prior knowledge of Israel’s reported strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field.

In a statement posted on his platform Truth Social, Trump described the South Pars gas field as a highly valuable and critical asset, adding that Israel would not carry out further attacks on the site.

He warned Iran against targeting Qatar, saying that any such move would prompt a severe U.S. response. “If Iran attacks Qatar, the United States will destroy the Pars gas field with an intensity never seen before,” he cautioned.

Trump also condemned attacks on Qatar’s LNG facilities, calling them unjustified and unfair. He stressed that any repeat of such actions could lead to a dangerous escalation.

The U.S. president added that further aggression by Iran toward Qatar could heighten regional tensions, but emphasized that Washington does not seek widespread violence or destruction due to the long-term consequences it would have for Iran.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that Israel targeted energy facilities linked to Iran’s South Pars gas field, which is connected to Qatar’s North Field expansion.

According to the Qatari Foreign Ministry, attacking energy infrastructure poses a serious threat to global energy security, warning of broader implications for international markets.

The United Arab Emirates also expressed concern over the strike on the shared gas field between Iran and Qatar.

In its official statement, the UAE noted that the South Pars field in Iran is directly connected to Qatar’s North Field, emphasizing that any attack on such a critical energy site could have severe consequences for global energy stability.

From Arts School to Oscars: Michael B. Jordan’s heartwarming throwback

From Arts School to Oscars

Los Angeles: Right after Michael B. Jordan picked up his 2026 Oscar, fans were treated to a feel-good story from his past. Musician Adam Melchor shared a nostalgic memory that revealed the Hollywood star’s humble beginnings.

Melchor recalled tagging along with his dad, then a vice principal at a Newark arts school, where he met a teen who “sort of took me under his wing.” Jordan played basketball with him and spent time walking around the campus, leaving a lasting impression.

The plot twist? That teen was none other than Michael B. Jordan. Melchor only realized the connection later after seeing Jordan in the film Hardball. “The kid that I wound up hanging out with was Michael B. Jordan. So, you know, I was asking my dad a million questions about him afterwards,” he said.

Melchor also noted that Jordan faced some challenges back then, with his dad recalling, “Some of the kids give him a hard time, because they’re pretty jealous.”

Fast forward to today, and that energy has clearly shifted. Fans remember Jordan’s viral response: “Oh yeah, I was the corny kid, right?”

Melchor ended his post with a heartfelt message: “So A., congratulations to Michael B. Jordan, B., be careful who you make fun of in high school, and C., if you’re ever around Michael and you’re seeing this, I’m so down to play basketball again.”

The takeaway? Kindness goes a long way—you never know who’s headed for an Oscar.
