Wilee Tech acquires

LAHORE: Walee Tech has acquired the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan for Rs2.45 billion, making it the most expensive franchise in the league’s history, and announced that the team will now be renamed Rawalpindi.

The auction ceremony for the Multan Sultans franchise was held in Lahore, where five bidders participated. The base price for the franchise was set at Rs1.82 billion.

After a competitive bidding process, Walee Tech secured ownership rights for a period of 10 years at a record price of Rs2.45 billion.

Following the completion of the auction, Wilee Tech’s management formally announced the change of the team’s name from Multan to Rawalpindi.

Addressing a press conference, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated Walee Tech on the successful acquisition and thanked former PCB chairman Najam Sethi for establishing the Multan Sultan franchise. He also appreciated all bidders for their participation in the transparent auction process.

Mohsin Naqvi said the sale was the result of months of hard work and strategic planning aimed at maximizing the franchise’s value.

He revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed happiness over the successful outcome, adding that some critics had earlier claimed the team would not even reach a valuation of Rs1 billion.

“The increase in the franchise value reflects the vision behind the PSL,” Naqvi said, adding that the league aims to grow beyond Pakistan and establish itself as a major global cricket event with top international players.

However, the PCB chairman also expressed personal sadness over the name change, stating that Multan Sultans had become a strong and historic brand over the years.

He acknowledged the efforts of PSL CEO Salman Naseer in building the franchise and said the matter of branding would be considered carefully in the future.

China sets new world record with 22.13 km highway tunnel in Guizhou

China sets new

China has achieved a historic milestone in construction, completing a 22.13-kilometer-long highway tunnel, setting a new world record in infrastructure.

According to Chinese news agencies, the massive tunnel was built through the challenging mountainous terrain of Guizhou Province, transforming travel in the region. What once took hours along dangerous and winding mountain roads can now be covered in a fraction of the time.

While Norway’s Lærdal Tunnel still holds prominence at 24.5 km, the new Chinese tunnel is specifically designed for high-speed express traffic, allowing a continuous flow of vehicles and trucks.

Externally, the tunnel entrance may appear simple, but engineering teams worked for years, excavating from both ends and ensuring millimeter-precision alignment.

Where possible, giant boring machines were used; for harder rock, controlled blasting and traditional drilling techniques were employed.

This engineering feat not only sets a record but also redefines the possibilities of modern infrastructure in challenging geography, reducing travel time and boosting regional connectivity.

Prakash Raj exposes Kangana Ranaut’s true colors

Prakash Raj exposes

MUMBAI: Renowned Indian musician AR Rahman recently faced criticism from Bollywood actress and politician Kangana Ranaut, prompting actor Prakash Raj to defend the Oscar-winning composer amid rising tensions over freedom of artistic choice.

Kangana had attempted to label Rahman as anti-national after he declined to contribute a song for her film Emergency, a move that drew widespread attention given her controversial statements and political affiliations with the BJP.

Speaking at the Kerala Literature Festival during a discussion on “Criminalizing Dissent”, Prakash Raj expressed full support for Rahman.

He highlighted that the composer had earned acclaim and international recognition with hits like Maa Tujhe Salaam and Jai Ho, and does not need validation for his artistic choices.

Without naming Kangana directly, Raj questioned the fairness of branding an artist as anti-national merely for refusing work on a project. He also criticized the tendency to claim personal films as classics while attacking others for dissent.

Raj added that turning differences of opinion into personal vendettas and levying serious accusations like treason is a concerning trend in the industry.
