Five Iranian women footballers seek asylum in Australia after anthem protest

Five Iranian women

Gold Coast: Five players from Iran’s visiting women’s national football team have sought asylum in Australia after they were reportedly branded “traitors” at home for refusing to sing the national anthem before a tournament match.

The players remained silent as the anthem played ahead of a match against South Korea during the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Gold Coast, an act widely interpreted as a protest against authorities in Iran.

According to officials, five players — including team captain Zahra Ghanbari — quietly left the team hotel late at night and approached Australian authorities to request protection.

Anthony Albanese confirmed that the players had been granted safety in the country. “Australians have been moved by the plight of these brave women. They’re safe here, and they should feel at home here,” he said.

Australia’s Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said the government had held several days of confidential discussions with the players before transferring them to a secure location after they left the hotel. He added that they were granted special humanitarian visas to remain in Australia.

Following the decision, Burke said the players celebrated and expressed relief, while noting that the rest of the Iranian squad would also be welcome to stay in Australia if they wished.

The situation drew international attention, with Donald Trump urging Australia to grant the athletes asylum, warning it would be a “terrible humanitarian mistake” to send them back to Iran.

The controversy began after the players stood silently during the Iranian national anthem before the match. An Iranian state television presenter later labeled them “wartime traitors,” intensifying fears about their safety if they returned home.

Exiled Iranian figure Reza Pahlavi also called on the Australian government to ensure the players’ safety, saying they were under significant pressure and threat from authorities in Iran.

The issue sparked demonstrations outside the stadium in Gold Coast, where supporters gathered chanting slogans such as “Let them go” and “Save our girls,” while calling for political change in Iran.

It remains unclear whether the rest of the Iranian squad will return home or seek similar protection in Australia.

Elon Musk becomes wealthiest person ever with $839billion fortune: Forbes

Elon Musk becomes

Elon Musk has become the wealthiest individual ever recorded, with an estimated net worth of $839 billion, according to the latest report by Forbes released on Tuesday.

The billionaire topped the Forbes World’s Billionaires list for the second consecutive year after his fortune surged by around $500 billion over the past 12 months. The increase was largely driven by rising valuations of his companies, Tesla and SpaceX, the latter of which is targeting a public offering in 2026.

Musk is the first person in history to surpass the $800 billion mark and is widely seen as being on track to become the world’s first trillionaire.

“It’s the year of the billionaire,” said Chase Peterson-Withorn. He noted that more than one new billionaire was added each day over the past year, largely fueled by an artificial intelligence-driven boom in the stock market that pushed fortunes to unprecedented levels.

The global ranking also showed Larry Page in second place with an estimated net worth of $257 billion, followed by fellow Google co-founder Sergey Brin with $237 billion.

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, ranked fourth with $224 billion, while Mark Zuckerberg of Meta Platforms rounded out the top five with a fortune of $222 billion.

The report also noted that the wealth of Donald Trump increased by 27 percent to an estimated $6.5 billion, largely due to gains from cryptocurrency ventures and the dismissal of a New York fraud penalty. Trump was ranked 645th on the global billionaires list.

Born in 1926 in the village of Tambu Wali in Kot Addu, his real name was Ghulam Muhammad. Pathanay Khan was primarily a folk singer who gained widespread fame for his semi-classical renditions of kafis, ghazals, and folk songs, which captivated audiences both in Pakistan and abroad.

He was widely admired for his mastery of ghazal, kafi, and traditional folk music, enchanting listeners for several decades with his powerful and emotive voice. Pathanay Khan famously performed the mystical poetry of renowned Sufi poets including Khawaja Ghulam Farid, Bulleh Shah, and Mehr Ali Shah.

Former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was also an admirer of Pathanay Khan’s soulful voice, which was known for its depth, emotional intensity, and spiritual appeal.

Saif Ali Khan urges son Ibrahim to carve his own path in Bollywood

Saif Ali Khan

Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan has advised his son Ibrahim Ali Khan to build his own identity in the film industry, stressing that success should come through personal effort rather than family connections.

Saif shared these thoughts during a recent interview on the YouTube channel of his sister Soha Ali Khan, where he also spoke about the issue of nepotism in the film industry.

Discussing nepotism, the actor said there is a significant difference between people who are fortunate enough to have strong industry connections and those who come from unknown or disadvantaged backgrounds, who often struggle to get opportunities.

He noted that audiences are often deeply impressed by individuals who rise to fame without a powerful or well-known background.

‘Opportunities Should Be Earned’

Saif Ali Khan added that while actors may initially get opportunities because of their parents, it becomes unfair if they continue receiving chances despite failing to deliver good performances.

“If you get an opportunity and perform well, people will appreciate it,” he said, adding that repeated chances without proving talent are not justified.

The actor also revealed that while he will support his children, it will only be to a certain extent.

“I tell Ibrahim that I cannot stand by him all the time because he has already been given a lot. Now he must create his own place,” Saif said.

Ibrahim’s Early Film Career

Ibrahim Ali Khan made his acting debut in the film Nadaaniyan, produced by Karan Johar. However, the film and his performance did not receive significant appreciation from audiences.

His second film Sarzameen also failed to perform well at the box office.

Faiza Hassan urges parents to educate children about extramarital affairs

Faiza Hassan urges

Pakistani actress Faiza Hassan has said that parents should guide their children about the concept of extramarital affairs and explain why dishonesty in relationships is wrong.

Speaking during a recent interview, the actress discussed the upbringing of Generation Z and noted that today’s younger generation is often more aware and understanding than previous ones.

During the conversation, she was asked whether children should be informed about cheating and relationships outside marriage, and whether parents should teach them that such behaviour is morally wrong.

Responding to the question, Faiza Hassan said that children can be gently and indirectly taught that betrayal or infidelity is not acceptable.

She suggested that parents should use examples from news reports or television dramas when such topics appear and explain why these actions should be discouraged, instead of giving children direct lectures.

“Children often become irritated when they are constantly lectured,” she said, adding that a soft and indirect approach works better when discussing sensitive issues.

Advice for Young Couples

The actress also advised young people who consider marrying at an early age. While she said that early marriage is not necessarily wrong, she stressed that individuals should first think about their well-being and future stability.

According to Faiza Hassan, young people should aim to become financially independent before deciding to marry, especially at a time when many individuals are still focused on building their careers.
