CDF Asim Munir highlights UAE’s role in Pakistan’s economic stability

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defiance Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met in Abu Dhabi with Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Advisor of the United Arab Emirates.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors, particularly in the fields of economic collaboration, investment and security.

They also exchanged views on regional developments and emphasized the importance of continued coordination to promote peace and stability in the region.

Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Government of the United Arab Emirates for its longstanding investments and continued support to Pakistan’s economy and security over the decades.

 He noted that such support reflects the deep-rooted historical relations between the two brotherly countries and commended the constructive role of the UAE leadership in advancing economic and social development in Pakistan.

Field Marshal Asim Munir further affirmed that the security and stability of the United Arab Emirates are an integral part of Pakistan’s own security, given the enduring historical relations and strong strategic partnership between the two countries.

He reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to continuing joint efforts to further strengthen this partnership in all fields, in a manner that serves the interests of both brotherly peoples and contributes to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

Imran Khan’s eye medical report reveals significant improvement

The medical report on former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan’s eye examination has been released, providing an update on his current ocular health.

A two-member medical board visited Adiala Jail to carry out the assessment, which was conducted on February 15, 2026.

The board comprised ophthalmology specialists Prof Dr Nadeem Qureshi from Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital and Prof Dr Muhammad Arif Khan from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

Key Findings

Right-eye vision without glasses measured 6/24, while left-eye vision was 6/9.

With corrective lenses, the right-eye vision improved to 6/9, and the left eye reached full 6/6 acuity.

Examination revealed inflammation on the retina of the right eye, with a reduction in swelling and a decrease in retinal thickness from 550 to 350, indicating significant improvement.

Overall, vision in the affected right eye improved from 6/36 to 6/9, which experts consider satisfactory at this stage.

Treatment Recommendations

The medical board prescribed the following treatments:

Nevannak and Systane Ultra eye drops for both eyes

Co-Sopt eye drops exclusively for the right eye

Anti-VEGF therapy to be completed, followed by OCT angiography and FFA testing for further assessment

Follow-Up and Briefing

Following the examination, two opposition leaders, Allama Nasser Abbas and Barrister Gohar Khan, visited PIMS at 9 p.m. to receive a detailed briefing on Imran Khan’s ocular health. His personal physicians, Dr. Asim Yousuf and Dr. Khurram Mirza, were also present during the update.

According to the report, the attending doctors and PTI leaders expressed full satisfaction and confidence in the medical care, treatment plan, and ongoing follow-up.

Rahim Yar Khan: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday criticised his political opponents, saying he had endured years in prison without losing courage, while some leaders “begin to complain” within a short span of incarceration.

Addressing party workers in Jamal Din Wali, the president said democracy does not permit taking up arms, warning that violence ultimately harms ordinary citizens. “In any conflict, it is your own nephews and sons who suffer,” he remarked.

Zardari stated that he had previously said prison begins to test a person after two years. “Today, there are leaders who have not even completed a year and a half in jail and have already started shouting,” he said.

Emphasising his own experience, he added, “I spent 14 years in prison and endured hardships, but I did not lose hope or determination.” He further commented that some political figures lack the courage to make sacrifices and can only engage in rhetoric.

The president also observed that prison is a place for reflection and worship, saying that prayers offered there are accepted.

Concluding his address, Zardari expressed confidence that his party would win across Pakistan and strengthen the country, adding that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would become the prime minister in the future.

Federal Govt decides to shift PTI founder from Adiala Jail to hospital

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to transfer the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister Imran Khan, from Adiala Jail to a hospital in view of his health condition.

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, confirmed the development, stating that the decision was taken after considering the PTI founder’s medical condition.

According to the minister, arrangements have also been made to facilitate communication between Imran Khan and his sons.

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry emphasized that the government prioritizes humanitarian considerations and legal requirements, adding that providing facilities to every inmate in accordance with the law remains the state’s responsibility.

Federal Govt constitutes medical panel for PTI founder Imran Khan

RAWALPINDI: The federal government has formed a two-doctor medical panel to examine Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and former prime minister.

According to sources, the panel consists of Dr. Amjad and Dr. Nadeem Qureshi. The doctors are expected to conduct a medical examination shortly, after which a decision will be made regarding whether Imran Khan should be transferred to a hospital.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar stated that further medical evaluation would continue for Imran Khan’s ongoing eye treatment.

 In a tweet, he mentioned that the PTI founder would be treated by ophthalmology specialists at a specialized medical facility, and a detailed report of the examination and treatment would be submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The minister also urged the public to avoid speculation regarding the treatment of the PTI founder.

Meanwhile, A bail petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking suspension of the sentence against Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in the Toshakhana case.

The petition was submitted by barristers Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, who also filed a miscellaneous application for early hearing regarding the 190 million-pound case.

The petition states that Imran Khan is suffering from a serious condition in his right eye, diagnosed by Dr. Muhammad Arif at PIMS Hospital.

Due to a blood clot, his vision in the right eye has been severely affected, with only 15% remaining functional. The petition argues that treatment for this condition is not possible while in jail.

It further notes that at the age of 73, Imran Khan requires bail to undergo urgent medical treatment.

In response to journalists’ questions, barrister Salman Safdar clarified that Imran Khan reported that PIMS doctors informed him—after tests and research—that he has lost 85% of vision in his right eye.

Fatal multi-vehicle collision near Kathore leaves 13 dead

A tragic multi-vehicle accident occurred near Kathore, involving an oil tanker, a bus, and several other vehicles, resulting in the deaths of 13 people.

According to police, the incident took place on Gadap Link Road, when a truck collided with a coach. Initial reports indicate that the coach was traveling in the wrong direction at the time of the crash.

Police officials confirmed that the victims included three women and several children. Some individuals reportedly fell off an overpass during the collision.

Rescue teams stated that multiple people were injured and are being transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.

Meanwhile, IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho directed police to reach the accident site immediately and ordered the surrounding areas to be secured to prevent further incidents.

Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, expressed profound sorrow over the fatal traffic accident near Kathore, Karachi, which claimed multiple lives.

The Chief Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and conveyed his sympathy to those affected by the tragedy. He also directed that injured individuals receive the best possible medical care immediately.

Authorities have been instructed to expedite the release of the victims’ bodies and ensure that all formalities and legal procedures are handled promptly. CM Murad Ali Shah emphasized that full support should be provided to the bereaved families during this difficult time.

To prevent future incidents, the Chief Minister has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the causes of the accident and assured that action will be taken against those responsible.

He also stressed that strict enforcement of traffic laws will be implemented to safeguard citizens and enhance road safety across the province.

Imran Khan to be transferred from Adiala to Islamabad Jail

ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to transfer Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister and PTI founder, from Adiala Jail to Islamabad Jail, officials confirmed.

Mohsin Naqvi stated that since Imran Khan’s sentence was handed down by an Islamabad court, he will now serve his term at the Islamabad facility.

Speaking at a passing-out ceremony of Islamabad police officers, Naqvi highlighted the importance of a well-trained federal police force.

He said that previously, the force lacked a dedicated counter-terrorism unit. “We started the training three months ago, which is a six-month course, but our officers completed it in just three months with day-and-night efforts,” he said, praising the trainers and officers involved.

He added that Islamabad’s training schools are being upgraded, and personnel from other regions will also be able to receive training there. “Having this force is very important. I am confident that these young officers will courageously tackle terrorist threats,” he said.

Regarding Imran Khan, Naqvi clarified that once Islamabad Jail is fully operational, Khan will be moved there. He noted that the facility will be ready within two months and is equipped with all necessary medical services. Since Khan’s conviction was issued by an Islamabad court, his transfer to Islamabad Jail has been deemed appropriate.

PM Shehbaz to attend Gaza Peace Board meeting

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will participate in the Gaza Peace Board meeting, accompanied by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, according to the Foreign Office.

Imran Khan discloses severe vision loss in right eye before Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: An official report on facilities provided to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail has revealed that his right-eye vision has deteriorated to only 15 percent.

According to the report, Imran Khan requested examinations by his personal doctors, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Asim Yousuf, and stated he could also be examined by other specialist doctors. Due to the restrictions of solitary confinement and lack of TV access, he demanded access to books.

Supreme Court Orders

The Supreme Court has directed that Imran Khan be given access to eye specialists and telephonic contact with his sons.

Security and Daily Routine

The report notes that Khan expressed no concerns regarding his security, mentioning that roughly 10 CCTV cameras monitor the compound. One camera partially covers the washroom, but no cameras are installed inside his cell.

Imran Khan’s daily routine reportedly includes:

Breakfast at 9:45 am, consisting of coffee, porridge, and dates.

Recitation of the Quran for approximately one hour starting at 11:30 am.

Physical exercise using limited equipment.

Access to a walking shed inside the secure compound after a 1:15 pm bath.

Lunch between 3:30 and 4:00 pm, planned weekly and funded by his family, including a rotation of chicken, meat, lentils, or snacks.

From roughly 5:30 pm until 10:00 am the following day, Khan remains confined to his cell, located about a five-minute walk from the main block of Adiala Jail.

Cell Amenities

His cell contains:

Three high-voltage bulbs, a ceiling fan, and a blower heater.

Two tables, a wall clock, a single bed with mattress, four pillows, two blankets, a chair, a small rack, and a prayer area with tasbih.

32-inch TV installed on the wall, but nonfunctional.

About 100 books on a table, along with two dumbbells, two apples, tissue paper, mouthwash, air freshener, shaving gel, and shaving kit.

A 4.5×4.5 ft toilet, separated by a 4-ft wall, with external access to hot and cold water, a wash basin, and a mirror.

Health Concerns

The report states that until October 2025, Khan had normal vision (6×6). He later experienced persistent blurriness, ultimately leading to a severe clot in his right eye.

 Despite treatment—including an injection administered by PIMS specialists—the right-eye vision has been permanently reduced to 15 percent.

This report provides the first detailed account of Khan’s health, daily regimen, and prison living conditions following his incarceration at Adiala Jail.

PM orders review of newly issued solar regulations by NEPRA

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken immediate notice of the new solar regulations recently issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and convened a high-level meeting to review the matter.

The special session, chaired by the prime minister, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Ata Tarar, Awais Leghari, Pervez Malik, Bilal Kayani, Muhammad Ali, Ahad Cheema and other senior officials.

During the meeting, the prime minister directed the Power Division to file a review appeal with NEPRA to ensure full protection of contracts signed with existing solar consumers. He emphasized that the rights of current solar users must be safeguarded under all circumstances.

Shehbaz Sharif further stated that the financial burden of 466,000 solar consumers should not be shifted onto 37.6 million national grid electricity users. He instructed the Power Division to formulate a comprehensive strategy to address the issue.

What Are the New Solar Regulations?

Under the revised regulations, NEPRA has reduced the rates at which electricity generated through solar systems can be sold to the national grid.

Existing solar consumers will continue to sell electricity to the grid at the previous rate of Rs25.32 per unit.

New solar consumers, however, will face a significant reduction of Rs17.19 per unit in the buyback rate. They will now receive Rs8.13 per unit — more than three times lower than the previous rate.

Additionally, a new net billing mechanism has been introduced for both new and existing consumers. Under this system, exported units will no longer be adjusted on a one-to-one basis against imported units. Instead, electricity drawn from the national grid will be charged according to the applicable government tariff and slab rates.

Furthermore, the license period for new net metering consumers has been reduced from seven years to five years.

The development has sparked debate over the future of rooftop solar adoption in Pakistan, as stakeholders assess the financial implications of the revised framework.
