Jonty Rhodes expresses concern over Delhi’s air quality

Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes expressed concern over Delhi’s worsening air quality during a recent visit to India.

Rhodes shared comparative images of Delhi and Goa on social media platform X, highlighting the stark difference in air conditions.

Alongside the photos, he wrote, “Thankful that we live in South Goa where our children can play football outside, whereas in Delhi, children are told to stay indoors.”

It is worth noting that Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) can reach up to 400 as winter approaches, making outdoor activities hazardous.

Gallup Pakistan survey reveals split opinions on second marriage

A new survey released by Gallup Pakistan has revealed that 40% of Pakistanis support second marriage, though only under specific conditions, while 60% oppose it outright.

According to the survey, support for second marriage was notably higher among men than women. Half of all male respondents (50%) backed the idea, compared to only 30% of female respondents. Meanwhile, 72% of Pakistanis believe it is difficult or nearly impossible to maintain fairness between two wives after a second marriage.

Only 26% said fair treatment between both wives is possible, while 59% of men believe such fairness is unrealistic.

When asked under what circumstances a second marriage should be allowed, 39% said it should be permitted if a couple has no children, 15% emphasized the ability to treat both wives equally, and 10% stressed that permission from the first wife is essential for a second marriage.

RAWALPINDI: The closing ceremony of 45th Pakistan Army Rifle Association (PARA) Central Meet was held at Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), Jhelum. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 45th PARA Central Meet 2025 was conducted from 01 October to 10 November 2025.  Over 2000 participants from Pakistan Army, Air Force, Navy, Civil Armed Forces, Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan and Federal Rifle Associations displayed their shooting skills with full zeal and enthusiasm.

Pak Army won the 3rd Inter Services Combat Shooting Championship 2025 by winning all Four Inter Services Matches. Punjab Regiment won The Unit Firing Proficiency Match Group-I. Sepoy Muhammad Irfan of Punjab Regiment won the title of The Master at Arms. Naib Subedar Umar Farooq of Army Marksmanship Unit won The Army Hundred Rifle Match Trophy.

The COAS, while interacting with the participants, commended their outstanding marksmanship and emphasized that “mastery in shooting must remain a core objective of military training.”

Later, the COAS also attended the centenary celebrations of Military College Jhelum (MCJ) as Chief Guest. COAS inaugurated the Centenary Monument and College Museum, honoring a century of excellence and preserving the institution’s rich heritage.

He lauded the institution’s role in nurturing leadership, discipline, and patriotism, commending Alamgirians’ contributions to Pakistan and its Armed Forces. COAS also laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada.

Upon arrival, COAS was received by Commander Rawalpindi Corps and Inspector General Training & Evaluation (IGT&E).

Indian media run false reports of Veteran Actor Dharmendra’s death

Several major Indian media outlets, including India Today, ABP News, News18 and Hindustan Times, aired reports on Tuesday morning claiming that legendary actor Dharmendra had passed away — a claim swiftly denied by his daughter Esha Deol.

Indian media reports had alleged that the actor’s team confirmed his death on the morning of November 11. Dharmendra had been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital a day earlier and was reportedly on a ventilator, leading to widespread speculation.

Even prominent journalist Rajdeep Sardesai and actor–writer Javed Akhtar posted condolences on social media, further amplifying the misinformation.

However, Esha Deol later took to Instagram to refute the rumours, and now a statement from his wife, Hema Malini, has also emerged.

Expressing anger, Hema Malini condemned the false reports, stating: “What is happening is unacceptable! How can responsible channels spread fake news about someone who is undergoing treatment and recovering?”

She added, “This is disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give our family privacy.”

Senate passes bill to end longest government shutdown in US history

The US Senate has approved a bill aimed at ending the country’s longest-ever government shutdown, which stretched over 41 days, according to American media reports.

The legislation received 60 votes in favor and 40 against, with eight opposition Democrats crossing party lines to support the annual spending bill. The approval opens the door for the government to resume operations after weeks of disruption.

However, the bill still requires final approval from the House of Representatives, where the ruling Republican Party holds the majority.

The 41-day shutdown left hundreds of thousands of federal employees working without pay, halted food assistance programs, and severely affected air travel across the country.

Scientists achieve partial vision restoration using implanted computer chips

Paris: Scientists have sparked a medical breakthrough by partially restoring vision through computer chips implanted in the human body, marking a significant advance at the intersection of medicine and technology.

According to Time magazine, this pioneering development allows implanted microchips to help recover lost visual capabilities in patients with severe eye conditions.

The report highlighted 87-year-old French woman Alice Charton, who had lost her central vision due to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a common age-related eye disease.

The San Francisco-based company Science Corp has developed an experimental technology called “Prima”, which involves implanting a small microchip onto the affected part of the retina. This device helps in partially restoring visual perception in patients affected by retinal degeneration.

Israeli attacks on Gaza push death toll over 69,000

Gaza: The ceasefire has failed to halt Israeli attacks on Gaza, with over 69,000 people reported killed since October 8, 2023, according to Arab news sources.

Rescue teams are still searching through the rubble of destroyed buildings and other sites for the bodies of Palestinians buried under the debris. Meanwhile, Israel has handed over the bodies of 15 more Palestinian prisoners to Palestinian authorities.

In response, Hamas returned the body of another captive to Israel, leaving five captives’ bodies still in Gaza.

Elsewhere, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have also continued, resulting in the deaths of three people.

Cricket qualification formula for Los Angeles 2028 Olympics unveiled

The participation formula for cricket teams at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics has been revealed, following detailed discussions at an ICC board meeting.

Cricket was last featured in the Olympics in Paris 1900, and its inclusion in 2028 marks a major return to the Games.

According to media reports, the ICC governing body has confirmed the participation of six men’s and six women’s teams in the Olympic cricket events. However, the proposed formula does not guarantee a Pakistan-India clash at the Olympics.

Earlier, there was an idea to have the top six teams from the ICC T20 rankings qualify directly, but the new proposal focuses on top teams from each continent. The sixth team will earn its spot through a Global Qualifier tournament.

An ICC board member explained that five teams will qualify from their respective continents, while the sixth team will come through the Global Qualifier. The ICC is expected to announce the official qualification details soon.

Based on current rankings, India (Asia), Australia (Oceania), England (Europe), and South Africa (Africa) are likely to qualify. The USA, as host nation, may receive a spot, or the West Indies could take the place. Further details regarding the Global Qualifier will be shared by the ICC in the coming months.

Rain causes multi-million dollar loss for Cricket Australia

Brisbane: Heavy rain in Brisbane caused Cricket Australia to incur a loss of approximately AUD 1 million (around PKR 181.7 million) during the fifth T20 match between Australia and India.

The match was abandoned after less than six overs of play due to rain and lightning. As per T20 rules, with fewer than six overs bowled, fans were eligible for full refunds. 31,074 spectators attending the match received complete ticket refunds, making it one of the costliest nights for Cricket Australia.

India had scored 52 runs without loss in 4.5 overs before the match was halted. Lightning in nearby areas forced players off the field for safety, and the subsequent heavy rainfall led officials to call off the game entirely.

The abandoned match also meant that Australia lost the opportunity to level the T20 series, giving India a 2-1 series victory.

PM Shehbaz, Erdogan discuss regional cooperation in Baku

Baku: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir engaged in discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The leaders reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkey and expressed a shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and across the Muslim world.

During the meeting, both sides agreed on a forthcoming visit by a Turkish ministerial delegation to Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the Pakistan-Turkey friendship reflects the strength of deep and enduring ties between the two countries.
